How To Be Authentic And Share Jesus’ Love
Have you ever felt guilty that you haven’t been sharing God’s love like you should? Or as much as you should? Or as well as you should?
Other people seem to have an ease and a clarity in their influence to be a light. Yet, no matter how prepared you are your words or actions seem to fall flat. Appear to bring about no change.
How do we live for Christ to be a light? What does that mean?
Believe me, I’ve struggled with understanding what my gifts are and how much fruit my life reveals the love of God to others.
At a local music festival what seemed to be a street preacher asked me “Have you asked the Lord Jesus to be your Lord and Savior?”
When he turned to me I said, “Yes!” “I thought so,” he added. He finished the short conversation with the words, “be a good witness.”
Whether you agree with his approach or not, my thoughts kept returning to his final statement. What is it to be a good witness?
Acts 1:8 states “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
I’ve meditated on this verse and learned a little of what it means for the last 40 years. New revelation has quickened the words for me in a profound way.
According to my life verse you must receive the power from Holy Spirit and then you will be his witness.
I love this quote from Shawn Boltz
“The world will feel like God loves them because of your relationship with Him.”
Doesn’t that explain God’s witness in our lives beautifully? We cannot be a good witness unless we witness his love for ourselves.
One story that illustrates this well is my recent time with a lovely, intelligent, young woman I met. In the course of our conversation she asked “what does the wine and the host (bread) symbolize in communion?” I was raised in the Catholic church so I could easily answer her question.
What a joy it was to share the meaning of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and how he provides a way for us to spend eternity with him to her. It was a short exchange but I pray the seeds planted will bear fruit in her life.
The meeting we had was a set up by him and the words he gave me were inspired by him. The greatest part of it is that the result of that conversation will be solely for his glory.
What a wonderful God we have that all we need do is receive his love to be a ‘good witness’ for Jesus!
Be encouraged, dear friend, what you do relies solely on a God who loves you unconditionally. You can rest in that truth.
Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments. What opportunities have you had to share your faith? How has the Lord revealed his love to you in new ways?
